Leipzig University wants to further develop the start-up ecosystem in Saxony in cooperation with Saxon universities and companies - “Startup Factory Saxony” receives 150,000 euros for the upcoming concept phase

On June 6, 2024, Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection Dr. Robert Habeck announced in Berlin at the anniversary congress “25 Years of Successful EXIST Programs” that the “Startup Factory Saxony” was one of the finalists in the “Startup Factories Lighthouse Competition” along with fourteen other projects nationwide. The Technical University of Dresden was the lead applicant for the “Startup Factory Saxony”. In addition to Leipzig University, the “Startup Factory Saxony” alliance also includes Chemnitz University of Technology, Freiberg University of Mining and Technology, HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management, Mittweida University of Applied Sciences, SpinLab Accelerator GmbH, TeleskopEffekt GmbH and biosaxony Management GmbH. “The common goal of this strong alliance is to further develop the Saxon start-up ecosystem, pool resources and thus build even more successful start-ups,” says Prof. Dr. Uwe Götze, Vice-Rector for Transfer and Continuing Education at Chemnitz University of Technology. The Factory should also provide targeted support for start-ups in the growth phase and make Saxony a more attractive location for international start-ups and entrepreneurs.

“The selection of Startup Factory Saxony sends an important and significant signal for the further development of Saxony's startup ecosystem,” said Saxony's Minister of Economic Affairs Martin Dulig. “Saxony is thus seizing the opportunity to further expand its attractiveness for startup founders. The phase of rapid growth is particularly challenging for young companies, also in view of the current economic environment. If we succeed in supporting start-ups more intensively through this phase and bringing together the excellent expertise of start-up support in Saxony, this will give a further boost to start-up activity in the Free State as a whole. I wish our Startup Factory Saxony every success in the further competition process!”
