Areas of responsibility

The Dean directs the Faculty, chairs the Faculty Council, executes its resolutions and is responsible to it. He is responsible for all matters of the Faculty, unless otherwise stipulated by law or in the Basic Regulations. This includes in particular:

  • the strategic development of the faculty
  • Work Breakdown Structure
  • Target agreements between the faculty and university
  • Allocation of posts and funds in consultation with the Faculty Council
  • Right of supervision and instruction with regard to the proper performance of lecturing and examination obligations and tasks in the supervision of students
  • Delegation of tasks in research and teaching to vice deans and deans of studies
  • Chairman of the Habilitation Commission of the Faculty
  • Moderation of conflicts in the faculty
  • Communication between the Rector’s Office and the Faculty

Areas of responsibility

The areas of responsibility of the Dean of Studies lie in the area of curricular and quality management in accordance with the responsibilities laid down in the Saxon Higher Education Freedom Act, the Basic Regulations, the Evaluation Regulations, the Regulations on the Teaching Report Procedure and the UL Quality Management Manual.
He is responsible for all study matters within the Faculty of Economics and Management Science by virtue of his office.

This means he

  • is a member of all three study commissions of the Faculty and chairs them
  • is responsible for the evaluation
  • is responsible for the teaching report on behalf of the Dean
  • is responsible for the internal accreditation on behalf of the Dean
  • is the contact person for students in special crisis situations

The Dean of Studies participates in meetings on a regular basis or as required to coordinate study matters within and across faculties. He is supported in his work by the staff of the Study Office.

Areas of responsibility

On behalf of the Dean, the Councillor of the Dean’s Office shall conduct the business of the day-to-day administration of the Faculty, in particular:

  • the handling of personnel and budget matters
  • supporting the management, planning and scientific organisational activities of the faculty management including the preparation of conceptual planning and strategic development and structural decisions
  • administrative preparation, assistance and support of appointment matters
  • advising the Dean as well as the faculty members on administrative matters
  • Preparation and subsequent evaluation of the meetings of the Faculty Council
  • Cooperation with the central university administration, the university management and other faculties

The Budget Administrator assumes the following tasks:

  • Contact person for the faculty’s financial matters
  • Purchasing/procurement for the central departments of the faculty (Dean's Office, Study Office)
  • Preparation of planning documents for the financial requirements of lecturing assignments and tutorials
  • Processing of lecturing assignments, fee contracts, examination fees
  • Processing of foreign bank transfers, rebooking transactions and scholarship payments
  • Processing of official travel and auxiliary staff applications
