The Institute of Business Education and Management Training acts as the network coordinator of the InnoVET PLUS project Start2train. Together with the university partners of the SEPT Competence Center, the University of Kaiserslautern-Landau and the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, as well as the practice partners Qualifizierungszentrum Region Riesa GmbH and Gutenberg Digital Hub e. V. Mainz, we are working to attract start-ups in Saxony and Rhineland-Palatinate to the dual vocational training system and to establish long-term network structures for vocational training.

Only 5% of start-ups provide training, even though they have a high demand for skilled labour and are considered attractive training partners (BIBB Study 2022). This is where Start2train comes in and establishes sustainable network structures with around 150 start-ups in the model regions of Saxony and Rhineland-Palatinate. At least 25–30 start-ups will be directly supported in offering apprenticeships and recruiting suitable trainees – including school leavers, university dropouts and international talents.

The project consists of four sub-projects (SPs):

  • SP1 (Lead Dornberger/Saas): Establishment of a start-up network for dual training, qualification of start-ups as training companies and support from the Qualifizierungszentrum Riesa and the Digital Hub Mainz.
  • SP2 (Lead Happ/Saas): Utilisation of existing structures to recruit trainees and creation of a network with Studienkollegs, universities, career counselling & chambers.
  • SP3 (Lead Zlatkin-Troitschanskaia): Scientific evaluation of all measures to develop evidence-based action recommendations for transfer.
  • SP4 (Lead Happ): Project coordination and cross-regional stabilisation of the measures in close cooperation with the other sub-projects.
  • Establishment of network structures for collaborative training for start-ups in the model regions of Saxony and Rhineland-Palatinate
  • Sensitising and attracting start-ups for training and young people for training in start-ups
  • Project duration: The InnoVET PLUS project runs from August 2024 to December 2027.
  • Funding: This project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and implemented by the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training.
