Are you interested in applying for one of our Bachelor's degree programmes or the teaching degree subject area business and administration? Depending on the type of Higher Education Entrance Qualification (German or foreign HEEQ) and the intended enrolment in a specific semester (application for the first semester or a higher semester), there are different application paths.

This option applies to prospective students who have a German higher education entrance qualification (usually a German Abitur) and have not yet taken examinations in a similar Bachelor's degree programme.

Experience shows that the number of applicants exceeds the number of available study places in the M. Sc. degree programme in Management Science many times over. The Faculty of Economics and Management Science strives to attract excellent and committed students to the degree programme. The allocation of study places takes place through a multi-stage procedure.

1. Level: Application phase

You can apply for a study place during the application period via the AlmaWeb study portal or the uni-assist application portal (please note the respective information in the previous tabs); all documents must be completely submitted (online)  in the AlmaWeb or uni-assist portals by the end of the application deadline at the latest.

The following documents must be attached to your application:

  • Letter of motivation;
  • Curriculum vitae in tabular form;
  • Proof of knowledge of the English language (B 2) - this proof can also be provided via the higher education entrance qualification (as a rule the Abitur), if this confirms at least seven years of school instruction in English up to graduation;
  • for foreign applicants: proof of knowledge of the German language (C 1);
  • Certificate of the first university degree (or a current overview of grades of the completed modules confirmed by the university, the sum of which must generally be at least 120 CP) - this must be a university degree with predominantly management science and economic content;
  • if applicable, work and/or internship certificates.

Please check the application for completeness and correctness before sending it; it is not possible to make subsequent changes or submit additional documents during the application and selection process!

Please note that exceeding the application deadline or incomplete application documents will lead to exclusion from the selection procedure.

2. Level: Examination of professional suitability/admission requirements

Immediately following the conclusion of the application period on 31 May, the review of the submitted application documents begins, on the basis of which it is examined whether the applicants meet the necessary professional requirements that allow them to expect successful participation in the degree programme. According to Section 2 of the study regulations, a first vocational university degree with predominantly management science as well as economic contents or a comparable degree (especially in the field of industrial engineering) is required.

The result of the examination of the professional suitability is sent to the applicant by means of a notification via the AlmaWeb study portal after the selection procedure has been completed.

3. Level: Selection Procedure

Those applicants who have the professional suitability take part in the selection procedure for the allocation of study places.

Students are usually selected through selection interviews of the applicants with the members of a selection committee. The most promising applicants are invited (the criteria include: previous grades, CV, motivation, etc.).

The selection interviews are expected to take place between mid-June and mid-July. Invitations will be sent out at least a week in advance. Failure to attend the interview will be considered a withdrawal of the application. Due to the large number of selection interviews and the tight time frame, it is unfortunately not usually possible to reschedule appointments.

Up to a maximum of 50 percent of the study places can be awarded according to the grades of the proven module examinations of the first relevant vocational degree programme.

After the selection procedure has been completed, the admission and rejection notifications are sent via the AlmaWeb study portal. The sending of the notifications is expected to start in mid-July. Please note that the process will take some time.

We hope you understand that the faculty cannot provide any information on the status of your application during the entire procedure; you can only view your current application status via the application portal.
